i am forced to write today. i think i tore my acl on friday night. i was in a cardio kickboxing class and was trying to compete with other people in the class. i was trying to be a badass, go figure. the kicker is that i flipped a coin before i went to the gym. i didn't feel like going to the gym so i flipped a penny and it said to go home and not to go to the gym. ha! is that a lesson to listen to the universe more? i will get through this and be grateful for my health, hopefully attracting quick healing. i am in a brace and crutches, laid up on the couch. my mom and dad came to mereta and helped me out tremendously yesterday and today. i even rode a electric wheel chair in HEB when we went shopping. total fun.
i love my job and i love the san angelo school district. it is amazing. the children listen, they say yes m'am and show up early for class. these things seem simple, but not the norm is austin.
on quick political note.....i have been a registered independent since i started voting. for once i am sure of my voting preference and am shocked. i am so excited about the chance for a woman to be in a leadership position in our country. and it seems trivial in spite of all the issues our country is facing, but gender equality is a serious thing for me. i am also a strong supporter of the right to bear arms. we have the world's largest army because of it. it is our best asset in this time of foreign policy insecurity.
hurricanes have this incredible hold on our country thanks to katrina. being from lafayette i have loved ones with their own hurricane preparations. my grandparents are in europe. my cuzan and her husband are in costa rica. my aunts and their families are staying. both of my aunts have jobs that require them to work during emergency situations. my close friend andree and her family went to baton rouge. andrea and her husband are staying. they have bad ass old house in the middle of the ghetto, so they have to protect their stuff from looters. rachel and her new baby are going to longview. my nannie and mawmaw are staying. my maw maw crushes up palm leaves and throws them all around her property to ward off storms. so she has been busy with that.
so needless to say, i will be glued to the radio and internet to see how this ugly storm progresses ( we have chosen to not have a television - as a lifestyle choice). hurricanes add this crazy energy to my world. i have such vivid memories from my childhood. i think it is because my dad always had to stay behind, he was a cop. i would always worry. so i think i worry a lot now. I called all of my friends and families this morning to see what they were doing and to tell them i love them.
